Often times when I meet someone for the first time and tell them I am an artist, their response is: “I do not have a creative bone in my body.” Or “You’ve never met anyone that has less creativity than me.” Or “That is so cool, man I wish I was creative.” To be honest, it is almost startling  how predictable this response has become.

While I don’t always have the chance to say it within those respective conversations, I am going to say it now… WE ARE ALL CREATIVE. This is true. It’s one of the truest of true things I know.

I hope we can agree on the fact that God is perplexingly beautiful and breathtaking in His creative abilities. God, who with His words and intentions, created 4,302 variations of green that exist within the body of one tiny grasshopper. God, who spoke into being a scrawled cowfish with incandescent markings and horns. God, who made the most perfect cerulean blue blended to magenta and splayed across the sky each and every morning just to remind us of His beauty and His power and His workmanship.  This God is the same who made YOU.

From Genesis, ”Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, in our likeness”…  That’s a statement we have to sit with, we have to hold it in our hands, in our minds, in our hearts and ask the truth of it to sink in… deep. We were made, created, brought out of nothing and when that happened, God said, I’m going to make man to be as I am. You guys, come on… that’s incredible, right? I was made to be like God. That’s incredible, but also weighty as if my very created-ness carries a responsibility with it as well.

God, made us to be like Him. That means a lot of different things, but one of the things it means is that we were made to be creative. All of us inherently possess creativity. It is there by God’s design. This week, let’s think about this. Let’s meditate on it. I want all of us to know and believe that God has given each of us profound creative capacity.
