Last night after church, we announced that we’ve entered into a lease to buy contract to purchase the property at 829 NW 13th Street. Wahoo!
I’ve driven past this building hundreds and hundreds of times over the past two years. And I’ve prayed so many times, “Lord, please help us get that church.” Honestly, I’d steeled myself against hope. I just knew we weren’t going to be able to. We’re too young of a church. We don’t have enough people. It won’t work out. Someone else will buy it.
But I was wrong. Thankfully wrong. My heart was right. God was better than I had hoped.
There’s still work to be done. We have to make our inspections and do our due diligence. We need to make sure it’s not about to fall down.
And then if all goes well, we’ll have more work to do starting in November. Tours. Work days. Cleaning up the dust and grime. Fixing, vacuuming, scraping, painting. We want it to be beautiful and inviting. We want people to come in and find welcoming people and a space that promotes friendship and worship. We want it to fit with our ancient modern vision. We want people to find God here, to see that Jesus is even better than we could imagine because his grace is so great. To hear the gospel with some decent Biblical preaching, to sing re-done hymns, to participate in the Lord’s Supper every week, to confess and be forgiven, to see the Holy Spirit at work, to greet new friends, and walk together in community and mission.
Our ambitious goal will be to have a Grand Opening on Easter Sunday April 19th at 10am. We hope you’ll be there to join us.
We want to be able to reach out to those all around us – beautiful neighborhoods, government housing, hipsters in new apartments, those working in Devon Tower, or waitressing nearby, or in the law offices, or at the tire store. We want people to be able to find us, because we want them to be able to find Christ.
Four years ago Bobby moved to Oklahoma to work on church planting with Christ the King. I gave him my office space. Two years ago we had our first preview service. We’ve now been meeting every week since January 2012. And I might actually get an office again. But that’s not why I’m excited. I can work at my “office” in Coffee Slingers, (which I’ll probably still do!).
I’m excited to see God work in our church, and in my heart. Help my unbelief.
