Looking For A Place To Call Home?

You’re more than welcome to come to City Pres and not join anything, but honestly, you’ll be missing out. We don’t think you can fully experience our church unless you get involved in community beyond Sunday morning. We have a lot going on, and that’s because we value the community that is built by and grows through sharing meals together, serving together, gathering together, laughing and crying together, celebrating together, and just the sharing experiences which none of us can quite account for.

We don’t think anyone has to do everything, but we hope you’ll keep your ears open for these various connection opportunities and come when you can! The only real requirement for membership is that you believe in and walk with Jesus. All of our members need to be able to talk about that abiding faith. The rest of our membership process deals with what it looks like to live out that faith in our specific church, what is expected of you, and how we do things around here.

The Lord has made a place for us. This is the truth. Thanks be to God!

our service

All are welcome regardless of personal or religious background. City Pres is here for the convinced and the unconvinced, the lost, the found, the burned, bored, cynical and the spiritual. We invite you, no matter where you are in the process, to City Pres.

Our service is both ancient and modern. We seek a historic faith that’s applicable today in Oklahoma City. We join in old practices, and we apply them to our current situations. We’re a liturgical church (with jokes, drums, and modern aspects).

Don’t let the word “liturgy” scare you away. It is really just a fancy way of saying “the way we do worship each week.” We believe that Christ should be central to every worship service. Our attempt to implement this belief includes reciting The Lord’s Prayer and The Apostle’s Creed and taking communion (The Lord’s Supper, The Eucharist) together each week. These two declarations aren’t things you have to believe to attend City Pres, but they are things we ask that you believe before taking communion or joining the church. Don’t worry about memorizing these as they’re printed in our bulletin every week!

And you don’t have to be a member to take communion with us —
we believe the table is for all Christians.

MUSIC

Every worship service in every church has a structure, so of course ours does as well. God calls us to worship, and then we respond and move through the different elements of the service. We sing historic hymns set to new music, but we also love great new hymns and choruses, too. You might be unfamiliar with our style, but we pray it creates a hospitable place for you to hear from God and draw near to him.

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father who is in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts as we
forgive our debtors.
Lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For yours is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

STORIES OF RESCUE

Each week, we listen to stories from our community—stories about individual testimonies, ways our church is impacting the city, and opportunities for more people to get involved in what we do. We believe every person’s story is important and deserves to be heard—from the miraculous recoveries to the ways God helped you get through the week. Come, listen, and be encouraged that God is moving in OKC!

THE APOSTLE’S CREED

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus
Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, from whence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

SERMON SERIES

Our sermon series center around the Word of God. We’ve wrestled with Ecclesiastes, contemplated Revelation, learned from Daniel, and so many others. We believe the Bible is holy, God-breathed, and infallible. We place a great importance every week on returning to the Scriptures to hear what God has for us, grow closer to him, and grow in love for each other…and we try our best to fit it all into 80 minutes or so.

COMMUNION

Each week we come to the table. We physically move our bodies in obedience to Christ by coming forward to take the bread and drink the cup that represent his perfect sacrifice for us. We believe that communion should be a frequent practice, one that continually reminds us of our need for Jesus. At City Pres, you can know each Sunday that you will have the opportunity to join your fellow brothers and sisters, as well as Christians throughout history, in this holy sacrament.
